Castor Oil has been found in ancient Egyptian tombs dating back to 4,000 B.C. and is native to the Ethiopian region of tropical East Africa. Evidence of its cultivation was discovered circa 500 B.C. in central Egypt where it was used in cosmetics, medicines and as a lamp oil.

This was one of the cheapest, and most easily accessible, forms of medicine. In the 1800s it was seen as a miracle cure for almost every ailment and was often prescribed to help with constipation, heartburn and as a means of inducing labor.

What Is A Castor Oil Pack?

A castor oil pack is simply a piece of unbleached wool or cotton flannel with castor oil on it that is then placed somewhere on the body. It is usually used with heat, like a hot water bottle, rice sock or heating pad.

How Does Castor Oil Help Heal Scars?

Castor oil helps repair damaged skin cells and nourishes and heals scars with consistent application. Castor oil is high in fatty acids that can penetrate deep into scar tissue, encouraging the healthy growth of other skin cells. It will take time and consistence to enjoy seeing those results.

The Healing Properties of Castor Oil

Castor oil is high in ricinoleic acid, which is anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial which protects your skin from acne-causing bacteria and irritation. It also easily absorbs into the skin from the inside out.

Oleic acid is another propriety of castor oil. It is well known to be anti-aging and soothing for the skin. A soft, supple appearance is the result of this fatty acid. It can even be used for conditions like eczema.

Linoleic acid is also found in castor oil in high doses. This is an omega-6 fatty acid that also reduces inflammation.

Both the liver and microbiome are most active during sleep, and there is a lot of cleaning going on, so why not:

  • Promote healthy sleep

  • Support the gut and microbiome

  • Reduce inflammation in the liver

How to Use A Castor Oil Pack

  1. Clean your scar with mild soap. Cleaning the area removes surface oils and debris that could clog your pores. Don’t spend too much time drying the area. In fact, the moisture can help!

  2. Add a small amount of castor oil to your fingertips, and I recommend a pea-sized amount. Don’t overdo it!

  3. Massage the area. Massage is great for promoting circulation. Use pressure from your fingers to massage your skin for two or three minutes. Do not apply oil to any open skin, however. Also, keep the oil away from your nose and eyes.

  4. Wash your hands to keep the castor oil from latching onto your clothing or other body parts.

  5. Repeat this up to two times per day!

Store your castor oil in an airtight container in your fridge for a few months for the best results.

Consistency Is Key!

For healthy skin, apart from reducing scar tissue, it’s critical that you maintain a healthy diet, drink plenty of water, and stay consistent with your castor oil application routine.

Here is the castor oil I recommend. Organic Castor Oil It is organic and stored in glass, so there is no leaching of BPA and Phthalates into the castor oil.
